Global Empire

Would my global empire would it also reflect my thinking, my character and my values? Would my thinking, character and values be different to what they previously were? Hopefully my mass media outlet reaches everybody to gain the maximum exposure, however not invading the public’s privacy for that contact.

Peter Steven (2003) comments that ‘mass media’ is the industries of film, radio and television; and yet “this huge market for media forums includes people from most social and economical groups. The mass media created today is reaching everybody in the social media world, though at times being the public we can occasionally feel like we are being saturated from the amount of media being put upon us.

I’d like to believe in the view that money doesn’t change a person. The view that everything I stand for right now, such as, everybody deserves his or her own privacy. I’d hope this would remain in my Global Media Empire.

So if I own Viacom, the mass media giant that owns MTV, Paramount pictures, and many massive Internet pages I would try to expose the Viacom divisions without the public being aware of my mass media control which hopefully represents my thinking, character and values.

I think that through the power that many of the mass media giants have, the exposure an outlet like Viacom can is enough to alter the opinions of the public. Opinions that reflect the media mogul.

    I think you have raised an exceptionally valid point on the over-saturation of media in our society. However, I think to further validate your argument, you could also mention the world's big five media corporations who own 90 percent of the world's media. This would highlight the idea of media concentration which reflects the difference between your ideal global empire, to the values exercised by present day media organisations, as a direct result of globalisation.

  2. I agree on the point of over-saturation of media in our society however is this only the case for a small segment of the media? I believe that for much of the information within the media we must actively seek it out. We are all individuals with different tastes and preferences. our senses are tuned to block out most of the information we deem useless. So except for the same stories that are repeated on every news station, in every paper and on every radio, with the internet we are able to make our own choices about the information we are exposed to. You have a valid point in saying that you would like your media empire to emulate similar values to yours, I think this is a strong quality. Nice blog.

    Nice post!
    Speaking of the notion of "messa media", you agree with Peter Steven's statement that they mess media accounts for the comminucation system which most members in this society actively participate in. You refer it to traditional media such as radio, television, newspaper and magazine which owned by big media companies. However, "Media Empire" not only means the ones who own the media companies, but also means the power elites in political institutions. These media empires exercise their ownership rights overy the media industry, they take control different forms of media in different sectors, they dominant our TV sceens, radio even internet, moreover, the incident of the dominant media spread out all over the world. Indeed, as you put, our opinions thus are reflected by the mess media giants!
